Eligibility Requirements
Any man, so born at birth, of the age of 18 years, of good moral character and reputation and a citizen of the United States, who is lineally descended, in the male line of either parent, from an ancestor who settled in any of the colonies now included in the United States of America prior to May 13, 1657; and one or all of whose intermediate ancestors in the same line, who lived in the period of the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783, adhered as patriots to the cause of the colonies, shall be eligible for membership in the Order.
In addition, any man as described above is qualified for membership upon proving that he had a lineal male ancestor alive on or after March 16, 1896 (the founding date of the Order) who qualified to become an Associate under the above rules of the Order, even if that ancestor did not join the Order. In other words, the qualifying male ancestor would have been at least 18 years old and eligible to join through the male line of one of his parents.
In each instance, however, membership is based upon proof of lineage and patriotic service to the satisfaction of the Registrar General and approval of an application for membership by a State Society, as applicable. Our standards for membership are rigid and they should be, as they represent the unique heritage of Founder and Patriot lineage. Members are called Associates.
All applicants shall be recommended by two Associates in the Order.
How to Join
Application for membership is made through one of the Order's various State Societies. Anyone who believes that he is eligible and is interested in filing an application for membership should contact an Associate of the Order or fill out the Prospective Member Registration form linked below. Your inquiry will be forwarded to the appropriate officers of the Society in the State in which you reside or nearest to where you reside. These officers will provide details relative to the filing of an application, the fees and dues structure, and provide instructions for demonstrating claim to eligibility for membership.
For more information please fill out our Prospective Member Registration Form and we will send you an informational brochure delineating the eligibility requirements for membership.
If you have a family line that you think is eligible, and meets our lineage requirements shown in the flow chart illustrated above, we will contact you and send you further membership information. As indicated in this Lineage Eligibility flow chart, you may use any of five qualifying ancestral lines.
