Message From The Governor General
To accommodate early arrivals, we will offer tours on Thursday, May 13th of two southern icons - Houmas House Plantation & Gardens in Darrow, LA, and Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, LA. The Early Arrival Tours costs $100 per person and include transportation (58 miles from the hotel to Houmas House), a Louisiana luncheon buffet, and a guided tour of the majestic mansion and gardens. The next tour will take you to the classic Greek Revival Oak Alley mansion and majestic allée oaks. Before leaving Oak Alley, we will toast these treasures of antebellum Louisiana with Mint Juleps!
Upon returning to the Omni Royal Orleans late Thursday afternoon, you will have time to relax before seeing old friends at our Welcome Reception from 5-5:30 PM. Thursday night, you are on your own to sample New Orleans world-famous cuisine. Finer restaurants require reservations and gentlemen wearing jackets for seating.
Friday morning, JQA Trustee and the Executive Council will meet. Unless you are a JQA Trustee or Executive Council member, you are free to enjoy breakfast at any one of the outstanding restaurants inside the hotel or within walking distance. The General Court will convene at 11:45 AM, followed by a luncheon and afternoon session for the General Court members. The Ladies Tours will see the historic Garden District of New Orleans, then tour the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, where they will enjoy lunch followed by a cooking class to teach our OFPA ladies how to cook like a New Orleans chef! Friday night, all registrants will enjoy cocktails with premium brands and a spectacular dinner with wine service at the world-renowned Antoine's Restaurant – one of the oldest family-run restaurants in the United States founded in 1840.
It will be Seersucker Saturday for Southern Gentlemen – wear it if you have it - as the General Court continues at 9 AM. The Ladies Tour will take registrants on a guided walking tour of the historic French Quarter, including a tour of one of the oldest colonial homes in New Orleans, and the Louisiana State Museum. The two-day Ladies Tours cost $100 per person and includes transportation, lunch, cooking class, museum admissions, and registered tour guides.
Upon adjournment of the General Court and our ladies' return from their French Quarter tour, all registrants will be bused to the National WWII Museum where we will have lunch and a guided tour. The National WWII Museum is New Orleans' #1 tourist destination and ranked the #8 museum in the world by TripAdvisor.
Saturday's activities cap off with the 125th General Court portrait taken on the Omni Royal Orleans lobby stairwell at 6:30 PM, followed by the Governor General's Reception from 7-7:30 PM, and White Tie Banquet at 7:30 PM featuring D. Brenton Simons as our guest speaker. Simons is President and CEO of the New England Historic and Genealogical Society and AmericanAncestors.
Registration for 125th General Court is $600 per person for Early Bird Registrants. Registration includes meetings, materials, lunch on Friday for associates, cocktails, and dinner at Antoine's on Friday night, lunch and tour for all registrants on Saturday at the National WWII Museum, and cocktails and dinner at the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel on Saturday evening. Registration for associates, ladies, and guests also will include a collector's edition OFPA Quasquicentennial medal.
