Spring 2009 Bulletin

The Nevada Society of the Order of Founders and Patriots of America (OFPA) held its annual meeting May 17, 2008 at the Round Table Pizza in Reno as part of the combined meeting with the Northern Chapter of the NVSSAR.

All necessary business was transacted at this meeting including the elections of Tracey Coats, Robert Mitchell and Gene Sheldon to serve as our councillors for term 2008-2011, The Nevada Society has 26 members. One of our members, Fred A. Cutler III, passed away last year. The Clark family, father and two sons, transferred to the new society formed in Colorado.

This spring, five ROTC awards were presented to cadets and midshipmen at the University of Nevada at both Reno and Las Vegas and at the University of Idaho.

We’re pleased to announce that a new Air Force unit has been formed at UNLV. We continue to support these units by providing awards to deserving cadets and midshipmen.

After paying its few bills including medals and the approved gift of $150 to the Reno Family History Center (FHC), the treasury balance is good. Thanks go to those who generously sent in an extra amount to help make up for our previous lean year. This will ensure our ability to provide for future ROTC awards, donations and other possible expenses. The FHC is very appreciative of our support to making research materials, properly anointed, available to all visitors.

It was a good group meeting. Ideas were exchanged to the benefit of both groups. Those who were unable to attend were missed. Next year’s meeting will be held in conjunction with the DAR’s State Conference and NVSSAR state meeting which are to be held in the Reno area. We hope that you will keep this in mind and plan to attend.
